Dog in Socks

Maggie is not amused. She thought we didn't dress dogs.

That was before her allergic chewing progressed to a lick granuloma on her left front leg.
The vet suggested an anti-fungal cream for the yeast infection on her pads and socks or or a cone to let the cream have time to work.

We've tried socks before, but decided to give them another shot before the dreaded cone.
Electrical tape stuck to itself helps keep them on, though it's hard to keep them up over the leg spot.

Socks are slippery on the wood floors, so Maggie tends to stay on the rugs.
We're still not sure if we should get booties with grip or go with a cone.

Maggie doesn't like any of these ideas. What would you recommend?

  1. Oh no poor you Maggie. We hope it clears up soon so you can ditch the socks. Have a super Saturday.

  2. Oh poor Maggie. What's going on around here this year? My neighbor's dog is in socks at the moment as well for the same thing. (Her name is Maggie, too!)

When Beau got old and had trouble walking on ice, we tried a variety of booties. Unfortunately, the best ones we found for him wouldn't go up high enough to keep Miss Maggie from licking but I guess you could put them on over the socks? The ones we liked the best (and he did, too) were from "Ruffwear". It took him a little bit to get used to them but they had a good grip and we felt he was much safer having them on.

Good luck! And smooches to the pooches.

  3. Oh Maggie, I'm sorry sweetheart, neither socks or a cone sounds like fun. I hope you heal up soon!

My advice is to go with the booties with grips on the bottom, that way she doesn't have to deal with the cone.

  4. Hi Y'all!

My Human uses vet wrap on the horses and on me if I need a bandage. She says doctors use it on human patients too, but don't call it vet wrap. Booties like Sugar wears might help with the walking on the wood floors. Cover the remainder of her leg with some cotton wrap and vet wrap...just like the horses.

    Y'all come by now,

  5. Dog socks that have grippies on the bottom?

Feel better, Maggie! We know all about allergy woes at our house!

  6. I am dying to put socks on my Freddy. But there are no socks made that tiny. There are socks that have grippies on the bottoms-- maybe that will help. We know allergies are a misery.
