Not that Scary...

The Dude (and the vet's hands!) getting an X-ray

The Dude has a little bump under his chin that seems to be bone...

View from below - the hand over The Dude's tummy made this really confusing at first.

The Dude was really sick a month ago, the right side of his face swelled up overnight and he had trouble breathing. I only took one picture, and he looked so awful that I don't even want to look at it, much less post it. Luckily his blood work and X-rays came back clear, and it seems like he had an upper respiratory infection combined with an allergic reaction to a lysine supplement. He had an ephedrine shot and an antibiotic shot one day, and the vet came to the house the next night to give him a steroid shot. He was back to normal by the third day!

Technically we probably could have waited to see how the shots worked and not done the X-rays and bloodwork, and the vet did give us that option. We had been planning to X-ray the bump on his tiger chin anyway once the vet's building was finished, now at least we know he didn't have pneumonia or metastasized bone cancer. Seriously, googling pet medical issues can give me a heart attack!

Hope your Halloween isn't too scary! Happy Halloween!

  4. I'm glad The Dude is okay. I would have panicked for sure if Georgia's face had puffed up like that. On the bright side, those X-rays make super interesting pictures!

    1. The allergic reaction is supposed to be pretty rare, but of course one of the 4 cats would get it! Thanks, Happy Halloween!

  9. Its good to hear he was better sooner rather than later. Sometimes to much information is a bad thing. then you get worried about every little thing, like me. :/

    1. Definitely! It didn't help that our vet and the one we went to for the X-rays plus all the techs were looking worried.

  17. Ummm...your vet should be wearing lead gloves, or at least something like the ones Teri wears at work, called mittens, hahameow http://www.bar-ray.com/products/gloves/1035/Vet-Mittens

    1. Our regular vet freaked out when she saw the X-rays on the screen, she was wondering why the tech wasn't wearing gloves! The X-ray was taken by a different vet, so ours is going to give them a call. Thanks for the link!
