Spring Cleaning - Help!

The Dude and Ozzy in their new tiger fort.
Our vacuum of 25 years finally bit the dust. (so not funny) I bought an upright bagless vacuum, which provided the giant new tiger fort above. Unfortunately it was only temporary.

Ozzy: My laser vision senses something uncool.
Bagless vacs are gross! The fur kept getting stuck every time I went to empty it. If I wanted to stick my hand in a giant pile of fur & dust I'd reach under the couch instead of vacuuming.

Later, Dude.
Spring shedding season has officially started, so I had to empty the stupid dust cup 3 times in 15 minutes. I kicked the tigers out of their fort so I could return the vacuum (after cleaning it for 20 minutes).

It's all for me! I'm not getting out until you get me a paper grocery bag.
I've been looking at reviews in Consumer Reports & online, but I hate ordering something sight unseen.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good bagged canister vacuum?

  1. We're not much help here, we've got a dyson we've been using for the past 10 tears, but it's starting to go. We'll be needing recommendations soon too!

  3. Good luck finding a good vacuum! We have a Shark, and we love it, but it is bagless. It does have both a top and bottom door on the dirt/dust cup, so we never have to touch the stuff to get it out. :)

  6. I hate vacuums. Ours is bagless andd we are hoping it will die soon; after all, it is slowly falling apart. We have no idea what we would buy to replace it. Good luck!

  7. I have an old Hoover Elite. I got it for free on Craigslist! Been going strong for 3 years of sucking up dirt and dog hair. It is the style with the long narrow bag that takes forever to fill up.

  8. Glad I read Rachel's comment because I was beginning to give up hope such a thing existed. We have a Dyson we bought a few years ago and, while it's a great vac for sucking up dirt, like you, I am beyond grossed out when the hair and schmeg gets stuck in the cup and I have to clean it out.

I'm allergic to dust and that was why we bought this particular vacuum - it had high ratings for sucking up dust. Did no one think that maybe the person who needs a good dust vac might also not want to be reaching into the thing to pull it all out? Arg! I have committed to keeping it until it dies but never said I wouldn't be performing chants over it every night to help it on its way. :(

  9. Hey, I found the Eureka Mighty Mite Pet Lover vacuum on Amazon for $75 with free shipping! 36 bags were only $24 and one bag did the whole house. The hose seems a little flimsy, but the power paw did a great job getting fur off the couch. I might have to do a post on it!
