Extreme focus

WARNING! Turn down the sound on your computer before playing the video.
You do NOT want to hear a hyper giant schnauzer at full volume.

I'm not sure who is more focused, Griffin on Maggie or Maggie on ignoring him.
For some odd reason Duke likes Griffin, even when he crashes into him or runs him over.
Maggie, not so much.

Not so Free Kitten!

The Dude at about 1 year old

Occasionally people will comment that cats are expensive at the shelter and it would be cheaper to just get a free kitten on craigslist. Our cute little Lebowski was one of 8 free kittens that a coworker's son found at his new house. The Dude was 2.5 lbs and about 2 months old when we stopped at the vets' on the way home. Our "free" kitten's first visit to the vet cost $264.57!

The Dude abides.

My coworker said that the little punk had "sand fleas", like they were less of a problem than regular fleas. If by sand fleas she meant big honking fleas on steroids, the Dude had them. This meant we needed to buy 3 months worth of flea control for him, plus another 3 months each for our 2 indoor cats at home so they wouldn't catch the fleas. He also had worms and was tested for FeLV/FIV, which was luckily negative.

The second visit 21 days later for his rabies vaccine and distemper combo vaccine included another $45 exam fee, for a total of $93 dollars. Then he needed to be neutered, which was another $100, which included an overnight stay at the vets. This was 6 years ago, and many less expensive spay and neuter programs are now available; a listing of Massachusetts options is available at the Massachusetts Animal Coalition website.

Our free kitten was up to $457.57 by the time he was 6 months old! Admittedly, the vet hospital we were going to at the time was a lot more expensive than our awesome current vet, but it still would have run about $300 for the same care.

Serina and the Dude

Serina was about a year old when we adopted her from Stray Pets in Need. She was spayed, FeLV/FIV tested, up to date on rabies vaccine and distemper combo vaccine, flea, tick and worm free and only $95.
I'll take the "expensive" shelter cat pricing over the "free kitten" any day!

Zuni's new haircut & Toby too!

What's this you say about the groomers?
After - Got toys?
Nice that there is a cat perch off the deck.

Zuni and Toby are looking for a home together; both are housebroken and up to date on shots. Zuni is spayed and Toby is neutered. Zuni will be 3 in November and Toby will be 4 in March. They are very friendly and are great with kids and other animals.

Their owner needs to sell her house and move into an apartment closer to work and school. She hopes that someone with a house and yard will adopt them, as they love going outside to play.

If you or anyone you know is interested in this pair of adorable adoptables, please email me at 2punkdogs@charter.net.

Zuni and Toby are currently living in Massachusetts near Cape Cod, but don't let the drive stop you, their mom has a crazy commute every day!

The Adorable Odd Couple

Zuni and Toby
A friend that I met through work has the most adorable odd couple of pets. I think Zuni and Toby are about 2 years old and are pretty much inseparable. Zuni the dog has loved Toby ever since she first came home as a teeny puppy, and Toby the cat is amazingly tolerant. Zuni likes to capture Toby by the back leg and "drag" him around the house, while he's really hopping along behind her. He is such an awesome cat!

Toby is ready for adventure!

The unfortunate part is that my friend needs to move and would like to find a home for these two cuties together. Between working 2 jobs and school she barely has time for them, which she feels really isn't fair to them.

Zuni is a purebred, so I'm sure that people are thinking that she could contact the breeder. Well, her genius now-ex got her the dog as an unasked for Christmas present two years ago, and it turns out that the breeder was pretty much a hoarder, so she does not want Zuni going back to that situation.

She's hoping to find a home for them herself so they don't have to spend any time in a shelter, where they would most likely be separated. Toby is currently an indoor/outdoor cat, so the two of them have fun running around the fenced backyard. Zuni LOVES other dogs, and is great friends with the neighbors' dogs. She's even squeezed under the fence to play with them, while still attached to a long leash!

Zuni and Toby both love people and are great with kids. They love attention and hanging out with their people, Toby has even jumped in the car to go for a ride!

Zuni after a day at the groomers

We're maxed out here with 2 dogs, 4 cats and a lizard in a small house, plus Maggie plays really rough, so I'd worry about her squashing Zuni. Cocoa and Serena would not take kindly to the addition of another dog or cat, otherwise I'd be writing a different post! They are currently living with my friend and her family in Massachusetts near Cape Cod.

If you or someone you know would like to adopt this adorable odd couple, please email your contact info and any questions to me at 2punkdogs@charter.net. If you know of any rescue or organization that would be able to post a courtesy listing, please let me know. Hopefully this cute dog and her handsome tuxedo cat best friend can find a new home together!
